Parents and Patrons of Husky Nation:
Updated September 25, 2018
Thanks to students for their participation in Homecoming 18 last week. We had a great week and students did an outstanding job of participating in the “theme days.” Congratulations to Homecoming Queen Sierra Willburn and Homecoming King Garen Quandt.
The fall season is moving along at a rapid pace with district golf and softball starting next week. Best of luck!
Finally, congrats to our Harvest of Harmony Queen contestant Claire McCoy! The Marching Husky’s will be marching in the Harvest of Harmony Parade and Field Competition on October 6th.
Go Big Red!
Aurora Huskies: Courage, Power, Strength, Pride, Tradition…..last Friday afternoon Husky Nation showed a lot of Courage. We were forced to go into lock-down due to a situation that threatened the safety of our students and staff. I would like to commend our staff and students for the way you conducted yourself during this very tense situation. Thank you to our teaching staff, paras and custodians who put their training into action by reacting in a professional manner to ensure that our students were safe. Thank you to our students – for following directions, students, please understand that your teachers have been trained to react in situations like this and have protocols to follow. Students, please understand that if you are told not to do something it’s for your safety and if you choose to defy their authority the result of your actions may jeopardize your safety. Parents, thank you for your patience during the reunification process. The safety of your student is and will continue to be a priority. Finally a thank you to the Aurora Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office for their communication with us throughout the incident. As unfortunate as Friday’s event where, I could not be more proud of how everyone conducted and reacted during this situation. A team is only as great as its weakest link. Do not be the weak link! Even when faced with adversity, Everyday is a great day to be a Husky! Mr. Kittle
As you can tell our web-site has a new and improved look!
Last spring the Nebraska Department of Education announced that in the spring of 2017 all Nebraska Juniors would be taking the ACT exam. The ACT will now replace the former NeSA Tests that were required of all juniors. The district will pay cover the cost of each test. So all AHS juniors will get one free ACT exam! Starting on February 8th all juniors will start ACT prep sessions. The ACT prep sessions will be held each Wednesday until testing day on April 19th. The ACT prep program is an online program that students may practice on at anytime. Please encourage your student to spend time on the ACT prep online resources and take advantage of their free ACT exam. We will continue to provide more ACT testing information as we get closer to the April 19 testing date.
Also, new to our student testing program will be the Pre-ACT exam for all sophomores. This exam will be give on Wednesday, April 26th.
As we enter district/state wrestling and district/state boys and girls basketball seasons please be cognizant of that whether we are on the court, mat or cheering in the stands, we need to represent Aurora High School and the community of Aurora with class. There is always someone watching and it only takes one action or one comment to ruin our positive reputation. In the infamous words of “Ron Burgundy” “Keep it Classy!”
As we roll into the mid-term of the 3rd term I would like to remind parents of some upcoming dates:
March 9-10 – Spring Break
March 23, 24, 25 – “Shrek the Musical”
Happy New Year Husky Nation!
An exciting week coming up next week as Homecoming 16′ will officially start on Tuesday. The cheerleaders have put together four designated “theme” dress up days leading up to the annual Homecoming Parade at 2:00 on Friday. All high school students will be dismissed for the parade at 1:50. The parade will follow the same route as previous years and the pep rally will be held at the courthouse parking lot.
The Nebraska Department of Education recently voted and passed a requirement that ALL juniors in the state of Nebraska will be required to take the ACT exam starting the spring of 2017. Although final details have not yet been provided, juniors can anticipate taking the ACT this spring. Our philosophy on high stakes testing has not changed, Aurora High School is not about a test score. More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available from NDE.
Husky Nation was saddened this week with the passing of freshman student Maddy Spellman after a courageous battle with cancer. Maddy touched many lives during her time at Aurora Public Schools. Husky Nation continues to keep the Spellman family in our thoughts and prayers during this time.
Finally, parents a reminder that 1st quarter Parent Teacher Conferences are September 14 from 4:30-6:30. Hope you can attend!
Courage, Power, Strength, Pride Tradition!
Greetings Husky Nation and welcome back for the 2016-17 school year. Our enrollment this year is higher than it has been the past several years with over 400 students enrolled at AHS! We are off to a fantastic start and this week all fall activities will get underway. I would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome our new assistant high school principal, Mrs. Cyndi Mires. Mrs. Mires most recently was the Special Education Supervisor at Grand Island Senior High School and we are excited to have her on our staff and administrative team. It is always exciting starting a new school year and I am excited to see the accomplishments that our students achieve this school year. Hope to see everyone at our first Parent Teacher Conference on September 14th from 4:30-6:30.
Everyday is a GREAT day to be a HUSKY!
